Two held for stealing jewellery

Two persons, including a woman, who allegedly robbed a family of cash and jewellery on the pretext of finalising a marriage proposal, have been arrested by the Crime Branch, police said on Tuesday.

The persons arrested so far have been identified as Mohammed Sajid (26) and Jahida (59). Their accomplices, identified as Sarikh and Sajida, are still at large, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

The gang belongs to Meerut and they had come to know about the victim’s family through one of their neighbours who is a native of Meerut.

Based on the information that the victim family was looking for a suitable bridegroom, they hatched a plan accordingly and contacted the family, claiming to be residents of Seemapuri in northeast Delhi, said police.
