Two held for extortion bid

Delhi Police claimed to have arrested two extortionists for allegedly threatening a trader of abducting and killing his children if he failed to give him Rs 20 lakh immediately, police said on Sunday.
The alleged extortionists were identified as Barqat Saifi (23) and Bilal Khan (23). They were car mechanics and resided in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi.

Police said that one Deepak, an Uttam Nagar-based  trader, told police on January 1 that he received three ransom calls from unknown persons for an amount of Rs 20 lakh, otherwise they would kidnap and kill his children.

“On January 3, Bilal Khan visited Deepak’s shop and threatened him to come with ransom money at Chath Pooja Park near Kakrolla Mor close to the Najafgarh Drain. Deepak with Rs 1 lakh ransom money, accompanied by police teams, was sent to the given place,” said an official.

The official further said, the cash was wrapped in a black polythene and kept on a motorbike parked at the said location. The accused came to collect the money and landed in police net.
