Two held for cheating

Two men have been arrested from central Delhi for cheating several retired and serving engineers on the pretext of providing consultancy jobs. The accused ‘earned’ more than Rs 20 lakh in last 8-10 months.

‘The accused have been identified as Virender Kumar, 47, and Mahender Pal, 52, who took more than Rs 20 lak from gullible engineers. They were arrested on Monday from a hotel in capital’s Rajendra Place,’ said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional commissioner of police [Central].

The accused used to call their target to some good hotel in Karol Bagh and New Delhi areas. They would lure the victims by promising consultancy commission-based jobs and ask them to give one per cent money  in advance for their commission, said Srivastava.

The victim then used to give one per cent of the total amount of the project, he said.

The officer said the accused did not have any fixed source of income but were used to a lavish life.
