Two dead, seven injured as trekker rams into tea shop

Two persons died and seven others were injured when a trekker rammed into a tea shop. The incident took place at Tarangapur area of Kaliaganj in North Dinajpur on Wednesday morning.

Police said that the victims have been identified as Vinod Roy (55) and Narod Deb Sharma (52) who 
were residents of Satkali area of the district.

The victims along with others were having their tea in the stall early Wednesday morning when a trekker coming from Durgapur area in North Dinajpur rammed into the shop.

Police said that as the vehicle was in high speed, the driver of the vehicle could not control it. Eventually the vehicle rammed into the tea stall killing the two persons and injuring seven others.

As the incident occurred early in the morning, the road was comparatively lonely. After the hearing about the incident, the local people rushed to the spot and took all the injured persons to Kaliaganj state general hospital where two were declared brought dead while the others are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The incident had triggered massive traffic jam on Durgapur-Kaliaganj state highway. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The accused driver fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprit.

In a separate accident, Sambhu Naiya (60), a daily labourer died after falling from an under construction high rise building while work was going on.

The victim, a resident of Joynagar in South 24-Parganas was working at a highrise building at Mukundupur when the accident took place.

Police said that the victim slipped and fell on the ground from the fifth floor when he was painting the outer wall of the building. The local people and other workers rushed him to a private hospital in the vicinity where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Police have started an investigation in this regard and interrogating the owner of the building. Police were examining if there were any negligence on the part of the owner.
