The two-day state level sports for primary students concluded at SAI complex on Wednesday.
Primary students from all over the state took part in the sporting event which was inaugurated by state education minister Partha Chatterjee on Tuesday.
Trinamool Congress MLA Sujit Bose and president West Bengal Primary Education Board Manik Bhattacharya were present at the inaugural function.
Bhattacharya said in addition to studies, the state government had put stress on sports and physical education culture of primary students and accordingly sports equipment were being distributed up to the grass root level.
Students from panchayat, circle, block, subdivision and district were selected to take part in the state-level competition.
Specially abled children also participated in the two-day event. Bhattacharya said the sports had created great enthusiasm among the students and successful students were given prizes.
The state government is encouraging students to take part in sports in addition to studies, he pointed out.
