Two cops killed, 6 others injured in Naxal ambush

A station house officer and an assistant constable were killed and six other security personnel, including an assistant commandant of BSF, injured when naxals ambushed a joint patrolling team in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Kanker district on Monday, police said.

A group of armed Naxals opened indiscriminate fire on a joint team of security personnel while they were patrolling at Paralkot village (PV) number 101 under Bande police station limits, IG (intelligence wing) Deepanshu Kabra said.

The squad of district force and Border Security Force (BSF) were on a joint patrol in Bande region, located around 250 kms away from the state capital. When they reached PV 101, rebels opened fire on them, leaving an SHO and an assistant constable dead on the spot, he said.

Those killed were identified as Bande police station SHO, Avinash Sharma and assistant constable Sonu, the IG said.

Six others, including three BSF personnel, were injured in the incident.

An assistant commandant of the BSF is among the injured, the IG said, adding they had been admitted in a local hospital.

Additional forces were rushed to the spot and bodies of martyred police personnel are being retrieved, the IG said.
