Two children dead after being hit by SUV in E Delhi

Two children were killed and another two injured after an SUV hit them in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area on Monday during wee hours. The accused driver has been arrested, police said.

The incident took place at around 1.50 am in Ghadauli area — the place of Sunday vegetable market —at New Ashok Nagar.

The traders of the weekly market were packing up their products when the speeding Innova hit the children who were carrying water on a push-cart. Immediately the people nabbed the driver who was found under the influence of alcohol. All the injured children were rushed to the nearby hospital where two of them, identified as Shiva (15) and Daleep (13) were pronounced dead on arrival whereas two others are undergoing treatment at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Sahil (15) and Shubham(16), received serious injuries.

“The driver of the car has been identified as Dharmveer (28) was drunk at the time of the incident. He was arrested from the spot after the accident. A case under sections of drunk driving and negligence has been registered against him at New Ashok Nagar police station and his car has been impounded,” a police officer said. Dharmveer is a resident of Rajeev Colony in East Delhi. He is a driver with a private travel agency and used to ferry professionals in his car late at night.
