Police on Sunday arrested five persons including two BJP workers from Picnic Garden area on charges of making crude bombs.

A police officer said the two of them are local residents while the rest three are outsiders.

Acting on a tip off, policemen from Tangra police station conducted raid in the house of Apu Sen situated at Picnic Garden. Police straightaway went to the terrace and found five of them making bombs.

All five including the BJP workers Apu and Joydeb Dey were taken to the police station. Police have also found some stored material to make bomb.

“Recovery of such material suggests that they had plans to create trouble during the elections in the city,” a police officer said.

After speaking to the local people, police came to know that they had seen Apu and Joydeb working for BJP during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. But they failed to give any details of the three others involved.

Preliminary investigation revealed that three of them were not originally residents of this place and they were hired to make bombs. At the same time the trio was also asked to teach others the technique of making crude bombs.

The outsiders had been staying in the house for the past few days. But they hardly came out of the house which raised suspicion among local people and they informed the police.

A senior police officer said that the arrest of the trio would help them in getting information if any of their counterparts have sneaked into some other parts of the city with similar purpose.

“They must have been known to them if their friends, those are experts in making bombs, have been engaged in the same activity. Raids will be conducted as soon as they give information similar intentions,” the police officer said.

Meanwhile, around 20 live crude bombs were recovered from a house at Bharatpur in Murshidabad. The owner of the house Tanjila was arrested.

Police have questioned her but are yet to know who had left the bucket full of bombs in her house.

It may be recalled that two persons were killed in the adjacent village Bindarpur a few days ago.

Police have been patrolling in the area since the incident and arrested some people on similar charges.
