Two arrested in Siliguri for betting

The police arrested two persons from Siliguri on charges of operating an inter-state betting racket on Friday morning.

Police said the accused Mohit Agarwal, a resident of Haryana, and Sonaulla Mohammad, a resident of Banarhat, were arrested during the raid in a flat on Pranami Mandir Road in the area under the jurisdiction of Bhaktinagar police station.

The police also seized a gadget that looked like a briefcase that was used by the accused to operate the racket.

A laptop, mobile phones and Rs 10,000 cash has also been seized by the police.

Police said that this is the first time that members of the racket who use such gadgets for betting were arrested and police suspect that they could help them get information about their counterparts operating from other parts of the country.

They had been betting during the ongoing football matches of the Indian Super League and the cricket matches in the ongoing New Zealand’s tour of India.
