Trooper climbs tower seeking promotion

A trooper of the Assam Rifles gave tense moments to Delhi police on Sunday after he climbed an electricity tower threatening to commit suicide to protest denial of promotions and came down only after seven hours, officials said.

Constable Vikas Chandra Borai, 37, climbed a high tension wire tower in south Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan around 11.30 am and came down around 6.30 pm after officials of the Assam Rifles managed to convinced him that they will do justice to him, police said.

Borai, who hails from Uttarakhand, joined the paramilitary force 17 years ago and was currently posted in Meghalaya, police said.
‘When our efforts to get him down failed, we called the senior officers of the Assam Rifles. With the help of elevators provided by the fire department, they managed to go up to his level, talk to him and convince him to come down. He agreed to do so,’ a police officer said.
