Triple murder case: Ex-tenant arrested

Delhi Police  <g data-gr-id="38">have</g> arrested the main accused behind the murder of an elderly couple and their son at North Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The accused person, Mithlesh <g data-gr-id="34">Mahto</g> (25) was a tenant who used to live on the fourth floor in the victims’ <g data-gr-id="35">four storeyed</g> building. He confessed that he killed the entire family because he wanted to take revenge from the deceased, Rakesh (30).

According to police, the accused was apprehended from his in-laws’ house on the intervening night of September 26 and 27 in Khagariya, Bihar.

Police had detained the victims’ neighbours and relatives for interrogation. According to eyewitnesses, they last saw <g data-gr-id="29">Mahto</g> with the couple’s son, Rakesh, before they found a foul smell coming from the victims’ flat.

“Mahto used to live as a tenant on the fourth floor. When Rakesh asked him for money, he refused which led to a scuffle between the duo. After the incident, <g data-gr-id="30">Mahto</g> returned to his village. He came back to Delhi on September 22 with the sole motive to avenge his insult. Next day he came to visit Rakesh at his house and offered him a drink laced with sedatives,” said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

“After consuming the drink, Rakesh fell unconscious and <g data-gr-id="31">Mahto</g> <g data-gr-id="32">tied</g> his hand with a nylon rope and slit his throat with a knife. Since Rakesh’s father, Chandu Mal (70) and mother <g data-gr-id="33">Gullu</g> Devi (65) knew that Mithlesh was here, he went to the third floor of the building and slit their throats,” the official said.

During sustained interrogation, Mahto revealed that he ransacked the couple’s room and robbed their jewellery, mobile phones and documents including passbooks. After <g data-gr-id="41">this</g> he locked the house from outside and fled. It was also found that the victims’ family had not done the tenant verification of the accused who had cases registered against him.

A case has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police station under Section 302 (murder). Further investigation is on to recover the weapon of offence and other robbed articles.
