Trinamool workers beaten up, party office ransacked

A Trinamool Youth Congress leader Subir Sardar was beaten up by some miscreants at New Town on Tuesday morning. The unidentified miscreants, who came on a motorbike, stopped Sardar when he was bringing his son back from school on a bicycle.

Without saying anything, they had started beating him. In a bid to save his son, he covered him with his arms. They continued beating him till he fell on the road. The miscreants had fled finding some local people coming towards them. They took Sardar to a hospital.

The incident sparked tension in the area as Trinamool Congress workers came out to catch those miscreants. Later they demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Police have initiated a probe in this connection and conducted raids at various places in search of the accused.

On Tuesday morning, Trinamool Congress leaders from Cooch Behar found that their party office situated at Mantu Das Palli was ransacked. Valuables including furniture were damaged and photoframes of Mahatma Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee were broken.

As a result, the party supporters staged a demonstration protesting against the incident.
The party’s candidate from Cooch Behar South Assembly constituency Mihir Goswami went to the spot and condemned the incident.

He said that the party office has been ransacked at the dead of the night after realising that Trinamool Congress is going to perform well from the area. In another incident of attack on Trinamool Congress workers, a party worker was injured at Bhatar in Burdwan.

The Trinamool Congress workers were bursting firecrackers after the exit polls declared that the party is going to form the government in the state. A firecracker, which bursted near the house of a CPI(M) worker, had started protesting which resulted in a clash.

Within a few minutes, some CPI(M) supporters had reached the spot and they got engaged into a fight with the Trinamool Congress workers. A TMC worker was injured in the incident. Some houses were ransacked and the residents of other houses had to leave the area apprehending fresh attack.
A large contingent of police was deployed to bring the situation under control.

In another incident, a CPI(M) worker Nirmal Mondal was killed by some unidentified miscreants.
Though CPI(M) claimed it to be a political murder, local people stated that his murder has nothing to deal with politics. It is learnt that he was beaten to death by the miscreants.
