Trinamool workers assaulted in Uluberia

Trinamool Congress workers were beaten up, their houses were ransacked and vehicles were damaged when some CPI(M) and Congress backed goons attacked them on Wednesday night at Uluberia in Howrah.

Police said a Trinamool Congress worker was beaten up the day after the election. The party’s leaders had lodged complaint with the police in this connection.

On Wednesday night the police went to the village to arrest the accused. The situation turned worse when some Trinamool Congress supporters helped the police in identifying the house of the youth against whom the complaint was lodged.

Though the youth was not in home and the policemen returned without arresting him, the Trinamool Congress leaders were attacked for helping the police to identify the youth’s house.

The policemen found themselves in a helpless situation as they were outnumbered by the people those had got engaged into the clash. Houses of the Trinamool Congress workers in the area were attacked. The party supporters were beaten up. A motorbike and a mini-truck were damaged during the clash.

The policemen present at the spot contacted the senior police officers of the district and a large contingent of police was pressed to bring the situation under control. Police pickets were posted to assure that the law and order situation didn’t deteriorate.

It may be mentioned that attack on Trinamool Congress poling agents, leaders and workers are continuing since the day of the election in Howrah. Some Trinamool Congress workers and their family members including some women were also being beaten up.

Party offices and go-downs packed with rice were being torched in some parts of the district. Senior Trinamool Congress leaders have already moved to the Election Commission to inform about the repeated attacks in their workers in different parts of the district.
