Trinamool turns 19; party to gear up for ’16 polls, draw up roadmap

All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC)  is going to celebrate its 19th birth  anniversary today and is expected take up key  issues  including the  forthcoming Assembly election, highlighting the state’s development and check infighting to strengthen party unity.

The all India general secretary of the party Subrata Bakshi will hoist the party’s flag at Trinamool Bhavan at 10 am. Party flags will be hoisted in every block. From  January 1 to 7 the party will organize political programmes in every block.

Over the past 18 years the party has witnessed many landmark events that culminated in it coming to power  with a overwhelming majority in the watershed Assembly elections in 2011. “ Had Mamata Banerjee  not come out of Congress  to form the party the Left Front would have carried on in West Bengal till today,” said a senior Trinamool leader.

The four  key issues before the party are : to unite people against communalism.  To make people aware of the Centre’s step- motherly attitude, to organize movements against FDI and unite party workers.

A senior party leader said that the party would organize movements against the BJP’s communal agenda. It may be recalled that TMC chief Mamata Banerjee  had invited ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali to perform in West Bengal when he was denied permission to hold a concert in Mumbai.

Trinamool is also gearing up  to make people aware of the step- motherly attitude of the Centre. The Centre has curtailed the funds of various departments and that has affected work badly. Trinamool workers will go to the block level to make people aware about this.  The party will also step up it’s campaign against foreign direct investment.

The party is going to take stern action against those engaged in infighting.  The party’s top leaders have realized that  infighting might affect it’s prospects in some seats and steps should be taken to present a united front.

“When the party was formed the main issue was  to oust the CPIM . Once it was achieved  now the main thrust is to ensure economic regeneration of the state. The party  will have to ensure that jobs are created and  extortion should be stopped,” said a senior party leader.
