Trinamool to oppose ordinances in Parliament Budget session

The party’s national spokesperson and MP Derek O’Brien, told a news agency that they would not allow the two recently promulgated ordinances to be approved by the Rajya Sabha when the Budget session of Parliament begins from February 23.

“TMC will oppose the draconian land ordinance and also the ordinance on raising limit of FDI cap in insurance to 49 per cent from 26 per cent. We are co-ordinating with other opposition parties to oppose them and would not allow them to be approved in Rajya Sabha,” O’Brien said.

Also the chief whip of the TMC parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha, O’ Brien observed that the Narendra Modi government “is hopelessly in a minority” in the Rajya Sabha.

He was commenting on the statement of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who asserted on Thursday that the defeat in Delhi polls would not slow down economic reforms.

The two ordinances have already received Presidential assent.

The ordinance on land acquisition envisaged procuring land for industrial corridors, rural infrastructure, defence and housing.

He said the party would grill the Modi government in Parliament on its “failure” to fulfil its pre-poll promises like bringing back black money stashed abroad. 0’Brien said the party would also take up the issue of electoral reforms.
