Trinamool to get office in Lutyens’ Delhi

UPA’s key ally Trinamool Congress will get a new office in Delhi’s elite Lutyens’ zone, with the government on Thursday saying that it is willing to provide the plot chosen by the party.

At present, the Delhi office of Trinamool Congress is housed at a South Avenue bungalow.

Urban development minister Kamal Nath said the Trinamool Congress is entitled to get office space [in Lutyens’ Delhi] and the government has already allotted office space to the party.

‘It was allotted last year. And there was a question of change in location. Now I have asked them to find which plot they want. We will give it. They are entitled to it,’ he told reporters outside Parliament House.

Last year, the government had alloted a bungalow at 1-B, Maulana Azad Road for Trinamool to set up its office there.

The above mentioned address is occupied by Trinamool leader and Minister of State for Health Sudip Bandyopadhyay, TMC sources said, adding that the party had sought a new plot to set up its office.

Lutyens’ Delhi is home to India’s most influential politicians.

Congress, BJP, Samajwadi Party, NCP, BSP and JDU are among the major political parties that have their offices in Lutyens’ Delhi.

Asked about the reports that BSP chief and Rajya Sabha MP Mayawati was alloted four bungalows in Delhi, Kamal Nath said as the president of the party and as an MP, she as well as her party was getting the houses.

‘She has combined the two small houses to get one, because there was no big houses,’ he said.
