Trinamool Congress worker killed in Baguiati

A 30-year-old Trinamool Congress worker was killed inside his house at Baguiati in the wee hours on Thursday. The police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder, but suspect that the victim’s step of helping a local youth to run his business without paying ransom money to a dreaded criminal could have led to the crime.

Police said the victim, Prosenjit Das was close to the local Trinamool Congress leaders and he was known for his help and support to the people of the locality. On Thursday morning his father found his room locked from outside which raised their suspicion.

After the door was opened, the youth was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood and there were marks of burn injuries with cigarette butts all over his body.

Local people gathered hearing the victim’s parents’ cry for help. Policemen rushed to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy. They found valuables strewn all over the floor of the room which suggest that Prosenjit had tried to resist when the miscreants had attempted to kill him.

Police are, however, yet to understand that how it was possible that the victim’s neighbours or parents, who were sleeping in the adjacent room, did not hear any sound when the incident
was taking place.

Preliminary investigation revealed that some unidentified miscreants had entered the victim’s house around 2.30 am. They had killed Prosenjit. There was injury marks on his neck as well. Swapna Devi, who resides in the house just adjacent to that of the victim’s, told the police that she went up to the terrace of her house as street dogs were barking. She saw three youth with their faces covered with pieces of clothes moving out of the narrow lane of the victim’s house. All three were wearing something resembling raincoats.

“They started leaving the place in a hurry when I had shouted, suspecting them as thieves. One of them fell on the lane and the same person was carrying something heavy in his hand,” she said adding that she had not suspected that they had killed Prosenjit.

Later the victim’s mother told the police that some miscreants had been asking for extortion money from a local youth, who had bagged a contract of putting a fresh coat of paint on a building. The youth had approached Prosenjit seeking help as he would have incurred a huge loss if had to give the extortion money.

Thus, Prosenjit had settled the issue. The victim’s mother suspect that the same miscreants were behind her son’s mother.

Kankar Prasad Barui, DC DD of Bidhannagar visited the spot. He later said that sniffer dogs were brought and a team comprising experts from State Science Forensic Science Laboratory will also visit the spot to collect samples from the spot.
