Trinamool Congress leaders attacked in Burdwan and Malda

Trinamool Congress leaders were attacked in Burdwan and Malda when they were returning to Kolkata after attending rally in support of the candidates of the party on Monday night. 

According to information, CPI(M) supporters allegedly shot at upapradhan of Mangalkote gram panchayat Santo Sarkar near his house when he was returning after attending a programme of the party. 

He tried to escape when he found goons with their faces covered trying to stop him. But they chased him and opened fire. They also hurled bombs at him. He received injuries on his right leg. 

Local people rushed to the spot hearing Sarkar’s cry for help. Finding people approaching the spot, the accused ran away. Some of the local people chased the miscreant but the latter continued hurling bombs and it helped them to escape easily. 

After the incident, local people informed the police and by the time other Trinamool Congress workers reached the spot. They took Sarkar to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. 

Police pickets have been posted in the area to avoid any untoward incident. The police have initiated a case in this connection and conducted raids in search of the accused. 

In another similar incident in Malda, a Trinamool Congress leader was beaten up at Narayanpur late on Monday night. 

Around 30 to 35 miscreants allegedly backed by the Congress gheraoed Trinamool Congress leader Robi Chowdhury when he was returning after attending a rally along with two other party workers. They forced Chowdhury to leave his motorbike and started beating him up till he fell on the ground. They also beat up the two others when they tried to save Chowdhury. 

Many Trinamool Congress supporters rushed to the spot soon after knowing that Chowdhury was beaten up. Finding the Trinamool Congress workers approaching, the miscreants left the place on motorbikes.

The injured leader of the party was taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital. Family members of Chowdhury lodged a complaint with Malda police station and alleged that the attack was led by Popra gram panchayat member Subodh Chowdhury and local Congress leader Gautam Chauhan. Police were yet to arrest anyone in this connection till the report last came in. 

Trinamool Congress candidate from English Bazaar Assembly constituency Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury visited the hospital and spoke to the victim’s family members. 

Brushing aside all allegations, Congress leadership claimed that none of their workers or supporters was involved in the attack.
