Trinamool Congress leader stabbed to death

A Trinamool Congress leader was stabbed to death at Ketugram in Burdwan on Thursday night.

Police are yet to arrest anyone in this connection despite conducting raids at different places.

Police said the victim Subir Ghosh was a resident of Bishnupur village and he was the president of the party’s booth committee at Bishnupur.

Sujit Ghosh, brother of the victim, who received injuries while attempting to save his brother, said that at Thursday night around 9 pm around 10 to 12 people gheraoed his brother at Battala. The victim used to sit at Battala in his leisure.

The miscreants had their faces covered with pieces of clothes and they stabbed Ghosh with sickles. The booth president had tried to flee but it was not possible for him to escape the clutches of 10 youth. They beat him up and stabbed him till he fell unconscious.

Finding the situation turning worse, people present in the area fled in search of a safe place. The victim’s brother, who was standing at a distance, came running and tried to save Ghosh.

The miscreants also beat him up and he received injuries on his hands. He fell on the ground and the miscreants escaped from the area.

After around 15 minutes, people returned to the place hearing the victim’s brother’s cry for help. They found Ghosh lying in a pool of blood and his brother writhing in pain. They took both of them to Hospital where Ghosh was declared brought dead while his brother was treated and discharged. The incident led to tension in the area and the place bore a deserted look on Friday morning with shops remaining close. Police pickets have also been posted to avoid deterioration of law and order situation in the area.
