Trinamool Congress fights back, says CBI being misused

Two days ago, Mitra claimed that a ‘mysterious call’ from Delhi led to his arrest. “Initially I was asked to leave after they recorded my statement but later another CBI officer came and said that I will be arrested since there was a call from Delhi,” Mitra had alleged.

Soon as the House met for the day, TMC leaders rushed to the Well and started shouting slogans against the government, accusing it of misusing the country’s premier probe agency for their vested interest.

They alleged that Shah — whose party used to dub CBI as Congress Bureau of Investigation — forced CBI to arrest Mitra. “They are falsely framing charges on our leaders to make a base in Bengal. But the people of Bengal will give a befitting reply to the BJP for their revengeful politics,” the TMC MPs, wearing Black Shawl, heard shouting outside the Parliament complex.

They said even the Supreme Court had termed CBI as a ‘caged parrot’ and former head of the agency was made to recues himself from 2G case by the apex court. Saugata Roy (TMC) said the CBI should no longer remain under the control of the Prime Minister (PM) and its operational control should be handed over to anti-corruption watchdog, Lokpal.
