Trinamool Cong leader from Kalyani shot at

A Trinamool Congress leader from Kalyani in Nadia was shot by some miscreants when he went to Kalyani Municipality to stop the accused from harassing a family on Sunday night.

The incident took place at Jhilpara area which falls under the ward number 14. 

The victim, Mintu Tapadar (30) heard that some miscreants identified as Munna Mondal, Suman Mondal along with some associates have attacked the house of Nupur Mondal. 

Her family members were beaten up by the miscreants. There was a function going on at the house that time. 

After hearing about the incident Tapadar who is a member of Trinamool Congress’s ward committee reached the spot to handle the situation. Tapadar got involved in an altercation with the accused after he asked them to stop harassing the family members.  

One of the accused suddenly took out a gun and shot Tapadar from close quarter. The local people rushed him to the Kalyani JNM Hospital and he was later shifted to NRS Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

The agitated mob on Monday ransacked the house of Suman Mondal, the prime accused in the incident. As Suman was absconded since the incident the mob had roughed up his family members. 

Police later reached the spot to control the situation. The agitators were lifted after the Inspector in Charge of Kalyani police station assured the mob that the accused will soon be arrested. The accused family members were also taken to the hospital after they received injury in the attack.

Police conducted raids at various places in the district and its adjoining areas to nab the culprits.
