Trinamool candidate from Mathabari, four supporters beaten up in Malda

Trinamool Congress candidate from Mathabari Assembly constituency in Malda, who had lost the election, and four of his supporters were beaten up on Tuesday night when he was returning after attending a meeting of the party. 

Police said the candidate Nazrul Islam and his supporters Suman Pramanik, Tenu Seikh, Baijuddin Ahmed and Nurul Islam were returning after attending the meeting on Tuesday night when they were attacked by some unidentified miscreants. 

The meeting was called to discuss the reasons that had led to the defeat of the party from the seat. 
The miscreants had started beating them with wooden logs and the car of the candidate was damaged. The miscreants had to flee when local people rushed to rescue them. They rescued the candidate and his supporters and took them to Bengitola health centre. 

A complaint has been lodged with the police in this connection. But police were yet to arrest anyone yet.  Trinamool Congress workers held a rally in the area protesting against the incident of attack on the candidate and their workers.

In another incident at New Town, some unidentified miscreants opened fire at the house of Trinamool Congress worker Sushanta Mondal. The incident took place on Tuesday night. 

Mondal later told to the police that the miscreants had attacked when they were about to go to sleep. 
The miscreants had initially pelted stones at the house. They opened fired when Mondal had tried to come out of the house. The bullets damaged the windowpanes. Later police recovered empty cartridges from the house. Though no one was hurt, it led to panic in the area. Local Trinamool Congress workers staged a demonstration protesting against the incident and demanded arrest of the accused. 

Seven people were injured when Trinamool Congress workers were attacked at Tiljala on Tuesday night. The miscreants had pelted bombs at the party workers which left around seven 
people injured. Police have initiated a probe in this connection.
