Transport dept, RVNL officials meet over Metro impasse

Senior officials of the state transport department on Tuesday met their counterparts at the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to resolve the impasse at Mahishbathan, which has arisen due to Metro construction work.

The RVNL is constructing a 32-km Metro line between Kavi Subhas (New Garia) and Dum Dum Airport via Rajarhat at a cost Rs 4,260 crore. About eight houses at Mahishbathan are needed to be demolished for the Metro project.

Alapan  Bandopadhyay, principal secretary of the transport department, said the state government had clarified its stand that the buildings could not be razed and had suggested an alternative alignment. The RVNL officials are trying to resolve the impasse.
