Transport dept introduces e-vahaan website

The state has joined hands with other metropolises where an outsider can rent a car and drive on his own.

The facility that will be provided by Orix Auto Infrastructure Services Limited has been inaugurated by the state transport minister Suvendu Adhikari. Akhiro Azuma, director of Orix India, was also present in the programme and stated that Bengal is a big market for investment.

“The facility will enable people to rent a car to drive on their own. Even tourists visiting the state can also avail the facility. They just need to have a valid driving licence,” said Adhikari.

The introduction of the facility ahead of the Puja would be helpful to many people having plans to visit the tourist spots in the state. They could easily rent a car and drive to spots like Mandarmani, Digha and Bishnupur. They just need to log into www.mychoize.com to book a cab.

On Wednesday itself two senior officials of two different multinational companies - Biyash Banerjee and Parinay Dwivedi - booked cars to drive on their own.

Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure that people could pay online taxes and apply online for various facilities, the state transport department has introduced a new software e-vahaan on a pilot project basis at Public Vehicles Department in Kolkata.

Both the officials of the Transport department and common people would be benefitted with the introduction of e-vahaan. There will be no more requirements to maintain multiple local databases at different motor vehicle offices. Database can be maintained centrally. At the same time common people would not need to visit motor vehicle offices as they could pay their taxes online.

The state Transport minister also distributed offer letters to the beneficiaries of Gatidhara project under which unemployed youth get financial assistance to buy car for commercial use.

This is the first time when the state transport department has released a Puja-Parikrama guideline to help people know about the special bus services during Durga Puja.
