Transcending boundaries

Their first break in the Indian music industry was for the Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra-<g data-gr-id="28">starrer</g>, Zanjeer. Since then, Raeth, a popular Pakistani rock band, has not looked back and is now planning to script a comeback with Direct Ishq. Post their concert in the national Capital we caught up with Wajhi Farooki, the band’s lead singer.

You bagged a song in Zanjeer. Do you count it as your big break in the Indian music industry?
Obviously, singing for Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra is a big thing and it was difficult for me. Few more singers recorded the same song with me, but the producers liked my voice and forwarded it to Bhushan Kumar. This is how I got my first big break in Bollywood. After Zanjeer, I did 3 Am for Ranvijay and I am currently working as a music director for a movie called Direct Ishq which is coming next month.

Tell us a little about the independent music scene in Pakistan?
There is no independent music scene in Pakistan. Our country has started making big budget movies and almost all the singers are into playback singing.

Where will <g data-gr-id="25">Raeth</g> head after this show?
Recently, we performed in Kolkata and  Darjeeling. We are looking forward to <g data-gr-id="26">perform</g> in other parts of the country as well.
