Trafficking: Police nabs Bangladeshi national

Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national from English bazaar area of Malda allegedly for his involvement in a trafficking racket.

Police said that the accused, Sakib Seikh (20), a resident of Najirpur village under Rajsahi police station in Bangladesh was trying to traffic two girls who are from Murshidabad. The two girls were acquainted with the accused used to come and stay at one of his relatives’ house at Astia village under Berhampore where the two girls have been residing. 

Since the accused youth had been frequently visiting the village, he developed a friendly relation with the two school girls. The accused told the girls on their way to school on Saturday that their aunts have asked them to go to her house in Malda. He convinced both the girls and then agreed to go to Malda to visit their aunt. The accused along with the two girls boarded a Malda-bound bus from Berhampore on Friday evening. The accused along with the two girls got down from the bus at Mongolbari area of Malda on Friday night. 

The accused told the girls that they would return to their village after spending few hours at their aunt’s house. A police officer from English Bazar while conducting night patrolling in that area found that the accused had been roaming in that area aimlessly.This had aroused his suspicion and he caught the accused for interrogation. 

In the face of interrogation, the accused told the police that he was trying to traffic the girls into Bangladesh. He also failed to tell the police the address of the aunt. According to the preliminary investigation, police said that the accused had a plan to traffic both the college girls to Bangladesh through the bordering areas of Hili in South Dinajpur. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
