Trafficking: Minor girl rescued, one held

A minor girl from who had been a victim of trafficking broke down while narrating her ordeal that she had undergone in past few days. 

The girl was on Saturday rescued by joint forces of Malbazar police, SSB personnel and the members of an NGO from an area in Malbazar in Jalpaiguri.  

The victim had told the police in the interrogation that she had been sold to some people at Rs 12,000 and she was repeatedly raped by the persons. 

Acting on a tip off the joint forces had rescued her from the Turibari area under Malbazar on Saturday. 

Police came to know that the accused might have been involved in a inter-state trafficking racket and they had an intension to take her to some other states. 

Police have arrested one Mannan Ansari for his alleged involvement in the incident. Police and the NGO members came to know that Ansari had hid a minor girl inside his house in the area and conducted a raid with the help of SSB personnel. 

After interrogating the accused, police came to know that the victim, a 13-year-old girl was from Jharkhand. 

The accused had bought the girl from Delhi at the cost of Rs 12,000 and brought her to West Bengal. 

Ansari had wanted to sell her in some other state. 

His conspiracy was however foiled after some local people came to know about it. 

The matter was informed to the local police station and the NGO members who acted promptly and rescued the girl.

Police have started a probe into the incident and trying to know who were the other persons involved in the trafficking racket. 

According to the preliminary investigation police came to know that the some others were also involved in the racket. Police were trying to identify the persons.

Trafficking has become a problem in some parts of Bengal as many minor girls are often trafficked to other states. 

In most of the cases the accused remain untraced.

The incident had triggered tension in the area. The local people staged demonstration in front of the house of the accused. 

The district police had started a thorough enquiry into the whole incident.
