Delhi Special Commissioner Traffic, Dr Muktesh Chander attended the All India state government’s meet on road safety organised jointly by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and International Road Federation (IRF) earlier on Friday.
In regards to Driver Verification Scheme on the lines of tenant and servant verification for residents of Capital being launched by Delhi Traffic Police, he says a form will be provided to anyone employing a driver, so, basic driver details are made available. Delhi Traffic Police will verify and provide full details, including any traffic and criminal offences committed by the driver.
This is a free service for Delhi citizens, and will help keep a check on crime, apart from helping citizens find a good driver.
Delhi Traffic Police continues its tough stance on drunken driving. Until now, more than 4000 driving licences have been cancelled for repeated offences of drunken driving. Delhi Police has approached NCR cities for offending drivers details too.
Delhi Traffic Police have also created a facility so a Challaning Officer with E-challan machine can receive the payment in cash to compound the notice. Notices are issued u/s 133 MV Act for various traffic violations.
Offenders were initially required to deposit the compounding amount at any of seven Cash Collection Centres in the city. Now, those who are fined can contact the nearest Traffic Police Challaning Officer. Cash will be accepted, and a printed receipt of the payment containing all details will be provided. Cops are also coming down heavily on lane violations.
Delhi Police have also identified space to dump 10-year old diesel vehicles in the Capital as ordered by the NGT.
If that space gets filled, state and union government will be notified in regards to make a provision for additional space.
