Traffic jam on GT Road as under construction culvert collapses

A stretch of GT Road at Kulti remained closed for hours causing massive traffic congestion after an under construction culvert collapsed on Friday morning. 

Sources said suddenly a portion of an under construction culvert near Niyamatpur collapsed and blocked the GT Road. No one was injured, but it led to a trouble as the local people protested against the incident.

Roads connecting Barakar, Chittaranjan and Dishergar from Asansol remained closed for hours causing inconvenience to commuters. 

Hundreds of buses and trucks were found standing in a queue for hours. Senior police officers, too, had rushed to the spot and tackled the situation as people were demanding immediate steps to clear the traffic congestion. Several policemen were deployed to clear the traffic congestion. Finally, steps were taken to clear the debris after which the vehicles started moving. 

Measures have been taken to avoid such incidents as it cause inconvenience to commuters. The reason being the stretch of GT Road that remained closed for hours is one of the most important thoroughfares that keep Asansol connected with different other parts of the district.
