Traffic jam on EM Bypass as running car catches fire

There was a huge traffic jam on EM Bypass on Thursday morning during the rush hours after a running car caught fire at Kalikapur at the crossing of EM Bypass and Jadavpur connector.

A fire tender was swung into action and doused the flame within half an hour. But the incident resulted in huge traffic jams in the area.

Police said that the car was going to Lake Gardens from airport.

When the car reached Kalikapur, the driver of the vehicle suddenly found that the smoke was billowing out of the bonnet.

Seeing the incident, the passengers became panicked and got down from the vehicle and went to a safer place.

Initially, the driver tried to open the bonnet to douse the flame. But he failed to do so as thick smoke was coming out of the bonnet.

Suddenly, he saw that fire engulfed the front portion of the car. The whole body later caught fire.

After getting information, police reached the spot and a fire tender was also pressed into action to douse the flame. The fire was brought under control more than half an hour.

The incident however spread tension in the area. The traffic movement became normal after one hour.
