Traffic cop stops truck to check papers, first abducted, then freed from captors

Within 15 minutes, one of <g data-gr-id="30">vans</g> finally tracked down the truck at <g data-gr-id="33">Panchkuian</g> Road and spotted the abducted constable, identified as Dinesh, hanging with the helper of the truck holding his hand. The police team asked the truck driver to <g data-gr-id="29">stop</g> but he pressed the accelerator and  <g data-gr-id="34">rushed</g> further ahead. The gunman in the PCR van then had to fire three rounds and succeeded in deflating one of the <g data-gr-id="27">tyres</g>.

By the time the police team could overpower the accused, the helper of the truck fled the scene after releasing the constable. He reportedly ran towards the ridge area and wasn’t found till Thursday evening. “The driver, later identified as Mohammed Tareef from Haryana’s <g data-gr-id="38">Jharoda</g> village, was arrested and a case was registered at the Mandir Marg police station,” said RK Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).

According to the cops, when constable Dinesh stopped the truck and asked them to produce driver’s license, registration certificate and other essential documents, the helper of the truck did not respond at all. Then the constable approached the driver and even then when the driver did not respond for quite some time, he tried to board the truck. That is when the driver instructed the helper to hold the constable’s <g data-gr-id="39">hand,</g> while he started the engine and sped away.

The truck had come from Gurgaon and was heading towards Outer Delhi. It was carrying sand, which raised suspicion about connections with sand mafia operating in and around the national Capital. The police are looking for the absconding helper.
