The Bhairabhsthan More area of Bankura virtually turned into a battlefield following a clash that broke out between the <g data-gr-id="20">toto</g> and trekker drivers over picking up passengers.
The repeated incidents of clash on a single day threw the traffic out of gear in the area and many vehicles were stranded. Police had to resort to <g data-gr-id="25">lathicharge</g> to disperse the mob.
Police said that some <g data-gr-id="26">toto</g> drivers and trekker drivers were involved in a quarrel over picking up passengers at Bhairabhasthan area on Thursday morning.
It was alleged that the <g data-gr-id="27">toto</g> drivers stopped some trekkers and auto-rickshaws and forced the passengers to get down from the vehicles as they claimed they were supposed to pick the passengers from that area. This led to a hot altercation between the two groups and a clash broke out. People were injured from both the groups.
The incident triggered tension in the area as the passengers also became terrified. After being informed, the police reached the spot but the agitators also engaged in a quarrel with the police.
A huge contingent of police forces was pressed into action to bring the situation under control.
Police resorted to <g data-gr-id="28">lathicharge</g> as the situation was going beyond control. The sub-divisional hospital also rushed to the spot to control the situation.
Police have, however, seized some <g data-gr-id="29">totos</g>, autos and trekkers in this connection. A police picket was set up at the area as there was tension following the clash. Police have not arrested anybody in this connection.
