Torn invalid notes found from Phoolbagan

Torn and distorted invalid currency notes were found in a Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) waste bin at Phoolbagan on Friday morning.

The local residents saw those notes and informed the police.

The policemen from Beliaghata Police Station recovered those notes from the waste bin.

“Most of those notes were in old Rs 500 denominations. Those notes were cut into pieces. We could not find a single piece of intact note,” said a police officer.

“Some old Rs 1,000 notes were seen there. They were fewer than Rs 500 notes. Those Rs 1,000 notes were also distorted,” said the officer.

It should be recalled that Kolkata police recovered a sack of old invalid currency notes at Golf Green, a few days ago, after declaration of demonetisation.

Some passers-by spotted the sack lying on roadside. Later, police submitted those notes to RBI Kolkata.

However, in Phoolbagan, the people of the area were tensed. They called up the police to recover those notes.
