Toll free number for info on MGNREGA set up in Bankura

In a bid to help more people get work under the MGMGNREGA, the district administration of Bankura has introduced a toll free number in which a person may call to get information about present status of the scheme in the district.

The toll free number is 18003453277. One may call in this number to lodge any complaints related to the 100-day job scheme. At the same time they may get information about the scope of getting work under the scheme.

It may be mentioned that West Bengal had emerged as number one state in the country in terms of expenditure on employment under the MGNREGA after the change of guard in the state.

For the past few months, the district administration had been receiving several complaints about the execution of the scheme in some areas. People had to travel miles to reach to the office of the Block Development Officer to get information that they want about the scheme or if they had to lodge any complaint.

A few days ago, senior officials of Bankura district held a meeting and decided to introduce a toll free number to help people get all necessary information related to the scheme. The district authorities have taken initiatives to so that a person gets his/her work done or so that their problems get solved within 15 days after the complaint was lodged.

According to a senior official of the district administration, one official will be attending the calls and it will be the task of another official to send the complaint to the concerned officials, who will do the necessary to help a person get their problems related to the 100-days work scheme solved within the stipulated period.

The district authorities would also take step to let people be aware of the newly introduced toll free cell phone number. The number will be displayed at all the office premises in the district and 
post offices. “It will help to improve the position of Bankura among all the districts in the state in terms of implementation of MGNREGA scheme,” an official said.
