Toilets in all but 11 metro stations: DMRC tells HC

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday told the Delhi high court that it has provided toilet facility for commuters at 138 Metro <g data-gr-id="25">stations</g> but there are 11 Metro stations where there are such facilities due to lack of space.

Justice VP Vaish was further informed by DMRC counsel Jatan Singh that it has been providing drinking water facility at all the Metro stations by way of AVM machines at 135 places and through kiosks at 166 places, through which metro commuters can buy water.

In an affidavit, the DMRC stated that “the contract for installation of 365 more AVMs has already been executed and the process of installation of the same is going in”.

However, in Metro stations where AVM facility is not available, the commuters can ask for drinking water from the staff members of the DMRC free of cost in case of emergency. As to the issue of dustbins, the DMRC told the court that it has not been providing dustbins at every Metro stations because of security concerns but at interchange stations i.e. Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, Rajiv Chowk, Inderlok etc. transparent dustbins have been installed. “DMRC is considering the feasibility of providing transparent dustbins on the other stations also,” said the affidavit.
