TMC workers attacked by miscreants in Bankura

Senior leaders of Trinamool Congress and some more workers of the party were injured when some people involved in various anti-social activities attacked them all of a sudden on Sunday morning at Bishnupur in Bankura.

The injured leaders and workers of the party, including president of Bishnupur Panchayat Samity Shamik Pal, were admitted to Bishnupur Hospital.

Police said that the Trinamool Congress leaders had protested against some anti-social activities that had been taking place in the area for quite some time. They caught some of the people involved and threatened to hand them over to the police if they continue with the activities in the area.

They had assured the party leaders that they will never visit the villages for any sort of activities that will lead to the harassment of the common people.

The situation turned worse on Sunday morning when the accused and their associates attacked the Trinamool Congress leaders all of a sudden. The party leaders and workers had assembled early in the morning at the place for a pre-scheduled programme when the miscreants attacked them. The miscreants had logs and bamboo sticks and started beating up the TMC workers before they could have understood the situation.

Around ten persons, including the president of the panchayat samity and Abhijit Singha, the general secretary of the party in the district, were seriously injured. The party workers were not in a position to retaliate.

The residents of the area came out of their houses and saved the party leaders. They took them to hospital where five of them were admitted and the rest were treated and discharged. Later, police went to the spot and initiated a probe in this connection. Police pickets were posted to avoid further deterioration of the law and order situation.
