TMC worker shot at in Beldanga, locals block road

A Trinamool Congress worker from Murshidabad’s Beldanga was shot at by some miscreants in broad daylight when he was going to a nearby weekly market on his motorcycle on Tuesday morning.

The victim Mojai Seikh was taken to Beldanga Block Hospital and was later shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital for treatment as his condition deteriorated. Doctors in the hospital said that his condition is stated to be serious.

The victim is a resident of Lapukuria area of Beldanga. He owns a shop at the Beldanga market was going to buy some items from a nearby weekly market on his motorcycle when some miscreants stopped him and later fired at him from point blank range. The victim received bullet injury on his chest and fell on the ground. The local people rushed him to a hospital. Tension spread in the area after the incident. Local people staged protest against the incident by putting up a road block in the area.

TMC district leaders have alleged that Congress-backed goons had committed the crime. A Congress spokesperson, however, termed the incident as an internal fight of the TMC.

The local people and the supporters of TMC put up demonstration at Beldanga. The block was lifted after the senior district police officers reached the spot and assured the agitators that action will be taken against the people who had attacked the victim.

TMC leaders in the district alleged that Congress-backed goons were involved in the incident and the crime had taken place at the direction of the some Congress leaders in the district as the victim was an active TMC leader and had been instrumental in the strengthening the party organisation in the district. It has been alleged that after having found that their organisation has started eroding in the district with many of their supporters joining TMC, the Congress party was engaging criminals to spread terror in the area.
