TMC worker beaten to death in Birbhum

A Trinamool Congress worker was beaten to death at Nanoor in Birbhum on Tuesday morning. Police suspect that he was killed for joining Trinamool Congress after leaving the CPI(M).

Police said that the victim Dolan Das was a resident of Thupsura village and the incident took place when he was heading towards his home from a local market on Tuesday morning.

Policemen from Nanoor police station went to the spot and took Dolon to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. Investigation revealed that some unidentified people with their faces covered with pieces of clothes approached the victim in a deserted place when he was returning from the market. Following a brief exchange of words, they pushed Dolon and he fell on the ground. They started beating him up till was unconscious and stabbed him repeatedly to ensure his death.

Though his family members claimed that he had no rivalry with anyone, police came to know that he had been receiving threats. Police are, however, yet to ascertain the persons from whom he had been receiving threat and the exact reason behind it.

Police came to know that he was once an active worker of CPI(M). Later, he came close 
to Trinamool Congress leaders and subsequently joined the party.

Investigating officers from Nanoor police station questioned some residents of the village in this connection. But the police are yet to ascertain the identities of the miscreants behind the crime. A police officer said that they were going through the call details of the victim’s mobile phone.
