TMC urges other parties to join protest against Land Bill

Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday has urged all the political parties who are against the controversial Land Bill to join a protest march to Rashtrapati Bhavan from Parliament House. Though the schedule has not been finalized but the leader of the TMC parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha Derek O’Brien claimed that it will happen soon.

Speaking to the media persons he said, “All parties who are opposed to the Land Bill are being requested to join this symbolic protest from Parliament to Rashtraparti Bhavan, sometime early next week.” “We are glad that many parties are now coming round to oppose the Land Bill. Trinamool has been consistent. We strongly opposed even the UPA-II Land Bill and called for voting in RS. This one too is draconian,” he added.

Sources said, JD (U) president Sharad Yadav was coordinating the procession and TMC will take the lead role in protest. “Yadav is coordinating with regard to paticipation of parties opposed to the Land Bill and also to ensure that there is no conflict between the Trinamool Congress and Left over it,” he added. On Tuesday the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha after the government carried out nine amendments to it and persuaded most of its allies to support it, setting the stage for its consideration in Rajya Sabha where the ruling government is in minority.

Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD and BJD had walked out of the House while NDA ally Shiv Sena had abstained as the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill 2015 was passed by voice vote.
