At the same time Trinamool Congress workers were also beaten up in Purulia and Baduria in North 24-Parganas.
On Friday afternoon some miscreants led by a local goon Pappu and his aides suddenly raided the party office situated in ward number 28 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the miscreants had attacked the party office as the workers of the party had protested against illegal parking and extortion.
The miscreants were armed with wooden logs and they damaged all valuables including television set, furniture and light sets in the ward office of Trinamool Congress. The workers present in the vicinity rushed to the spot and tried to restrict them from damaging the valuables. The workers were outnumbered by the miscreants and were beaten up.
Later a large contingent of police was pressed to bring the situation under control. Police pickets have been posted to avoid further deterioration of the law and order situation in the area.
In protest of the incident, Trinamool Congress councillor Iqbal Ahmed along with other leaders of the party from the area and hundreds of workers staged a demonstration outside Narkeldanga police station. They raised allegation of police inaction against the miscreants despite lodging several complaints against them and they demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.
The agitation continued for around an hour. Later it was withdrawn after senior police officers intervened.
People in the area were shocked to find such an incident take place in a congested area in broad day light. It was alleged that the police reached late despite being informed within a few minutes when the miscreants had started ransacking the party’s office. Trinamool congress workers were attacked at Baduria in North 24-Parganas and Purulia.
A 58-year-old Trinamool Congress worker Ajed Mondal was beaten up allegedly by some CPI(M) workers at Baduria in North 24-Parganas on Thursday night. He was attacked when he was returning home. He received severe injuries all over his body as he was beaten up with wooden logs and bamboo sticks.He was admitted in a hospital.
In a similar incident in Purulia, two party workers were manhandled while returning home on Thursday night.
