TMC names candidates for civic polls, many new faces

The Trinamool Congress announced the candidate list for the forthcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation Election 2015 on Sunday. Several new faces figure in the list, including a breakaway Congress leader and councillor, Mala Roy is expected to add power to the sitting Trinamool Congress team of  Councillors, feels Mayor Sovon Chatterjee. Another Congress councilor Arun Das  also figures in the list of Trinamool candidates for the civic polls due in April.

Out of the 144 candidates fielded this time, there are 66 women candidates and 20 candidates belonging to minority communities. Sovan Chatterjee is the Mayoral candidate for the Trinamool Congress. “Those who have shown dedication(the Mayor in Council) will be continued with…as for the new faces youngsters with a bright future have been inducted. We will win more than 75 per cent of the seats this time. That means we will win more that 120 seats in the civic polls”, Mayor Sovon Chatterjee told Millennium Post.

In the last civic polls oin 2010,  the Trinamool had won 97 out of 141 seats.

Interestingly, the party fielded some new faces from outside politics, including former Indian football team player Shyamal Announcing the names for all 144 wards of the KMC, West Bengal Panchayat and Public Health Engineering minister Subrata Mukherjee said that party chief Mamata Banerjee had formed a scrutiny committee to select the candidates.

“There are 66 women candidates and 20 candidates from the minority community. No other party has ever fielded so many women and minority candidates for the KMC elections,” Mukherjee said.
Earlier the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the TMC Board has performed well in the last five years and will do better in the forthcoming civic polls.
