Police said, Pratul Burman, the middle-aged man was a local leader of Majhigram. He was missing from some days. His family lodged a missing dairy as well.

Burman was resident of Amritakhanda panchayat area, in a village called Dhapgram. He left his house on Friday evening. The local residents spotted his body there.

“We sent the body to post-mortem. We are now waiting for primary report to come in,” said a police officer.

The officer, however, said that the wife of Burman alleged that her husband was killed. “Some local criminals killed my husband,” said Sipra Sarkar Burman, who is member of Balurghat Panchayat Samity.

However, local Trinamool Congress workers paid their condolences to Pratul Burman. “He was a really popular leader. People of this area loved him. He was really polite and kind-hearted. But he was also very energetic and hard working man. We’ll miss him,” said Prabir Roy, the president of Trinamool Congress Balurghat Panchayet Samilty.

“We’ll appeal the police to start investigation soon. The accused should be arrested soon,” Roy added.

Trinamool Congress workers of Balurghat area believe that local anti-socials might involve in this incident. They suspected that the leader was abducted and then he was killed.

“We found many wounds in his body. The investigation was initiated,” the investigative office said.
