TMC leader threatened on social media by a youth

A Trinamool Congress youth leader from East Midnapore’s Egra was threatened by a youth via Facebook.

The incident took place on Saturday night when the accused person posted a threatening message at the victim’s Facebook wall.

Police said, Jayanto Shaw, the youth Trinamool Congress leader lodged a complaint against the accused who was his one of his Facebook friends. The accused, Saikat Roy was also connected with Shaw through WhatsApp contacts list. Roy allegedly used abusive language against Shaw and threatened to kill him.

Shaw lodged a complaint with the Egra police station and police have registered a case under the cyber crimes section. However, the accused has not been arrested yet. “We are verifying the posts on Facebook and the messages in WhatsApp. A case has been initiated. We will take necessary action after the primary investigation,” said a police officer.

However, the Trinamool leader has alleged that Roy and his associated are involved in illegal activities. They were trying to persuade Shaw to join them. But Shaw politely and firmly refused their offer.

Shaw told police that the accused had tried influence him to take part in their illegal business, but he had avoided them, which infuriated the accused.

Police said that Shaw was new to the social networking arena and was not very efficient in using it. The accused took this chance to befriend with him knowing his political influence. He tried to influence Shaw with some of his ideas, but Shaw did not budge.

Later, the accused started to send messages on Shaw’s WhatsApp account. He threatened to kill Shaw if he did not become a part of his schemes.

“I have full faith in the district police. I have submitted all the documents including my mobile. The officers have called me to know the backdrop of the incident which I have made them clear,” Shaw said.
