TMC gives ticket to three sportstars

Three persons who represented the country in different sports will be contesting in the upcoming Assembly election with Trinamool Congress ticket.

Tushar Sil, famous body builder who became Mr Asia will be contesting from Amta in Howrah. 

He was the student of famous body builder Monotosh Roy. 

He made his career in body building before moving to Yoga. He has established Yoga Swastha Mandir to make Yoga popular among people. He came close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the year 2012 and has since taken a leading role in spreading Yoga on behalf of the state government.

Lakshmi Ratan Shukla was the captain of Bengal women cricket team in Ranji Trophy. A resident of Howrah, Shukla will contest from Howrah North.

Baichung Bhutia, captain of Indian soccer team and the most successful Indian footballer in recent years will be contesting from Jalpaiguri. He had earlier contested in 2014 Lok sabha election from Darjeeling seat. He lost to BJP candidate SS Ahuwallia.

Vaishali Dalmiya, daughter of well known cricket organiser Jogmohan Dalmiya, will be contesting from Bali in Howrah district. Trinamool Congress has become the first political party in the country to give ticket to three sports personalities. Fielding three international sports personalities, Trinamool Congress seems to be all set to promote sport in the state, if voted to power again.  The party had given financial assistance to the clubs and has encouraged setting up gymnasiums throughout the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has encouraged sports and several stadiums have come up in the state in the  between 2011-15.
