Tiwari runs out of options

The Delhi High Court has asked veteran Congress leader ND Tiwari to appear at the High Court dispensary on Saturday to give his blood sample for a DNA test in a paternity suit.

Deepak Garg, joint registrar, Delhi High Court, on Monday, asked the dispensary head to appoint a doctor to take Tiwari's blood sample.

'Let an option be given to [Tiwari] to appear voluntarily. Notice be issued to chief of dispensary ... who will appoint a suitable doctor for blood sample,' Garg said. The court had directed its joint registrar few days back to take police assistance, if needed, to bring Tiwari to the court premises for collecting his blood sample. Rohit Shekhar, 32, has filed the paternity suit in the High Court, claiming to be the biological son of Tiwari, 86.

The High Court had asked veteran Congress leader ND Tiwari few days back to inform it within two days that whether he wants to give blood sample for DNA test in a paternity suit or police force be used to get it. The High Court had also restrained Tiwari from leaving the country till he gives the blood sample in the paternity suit of Rohit Shekhar.

Tiwari has held various portfolios at the centre and has been the chief minister of undivided Uttar Pradesh and the Uttarakhand. Last position held by him was the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He had to resign as the governor in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
