Tipeshwar forest fire still raging, loss to animal life feared
The forest fire at the Tipeshwar wildlife sanctuary in Yavatmal district is still smoldering with a top officer on Thursday conceding that it is a “man-made disaster”.
Reacting on the conflagration for first time since it started Monday, Chief Conservator of Forest (Wild Life) MS Reddy said the fire is man-made and did not rule out loss of life to animals. He refused to share any more details.
Over 250 people have been deployed by the Forest department to douse the blaze.
A team of officials has reached the spot and is investigating the cause of the fire.
On Wednesday, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Pandharkawda, G Guruprasad had said it could not be ascertained if any animal has died. He had confirmed that a large portion of the forest was gutted.
