Tihar prisoners beat up accused

After the gangrape victim’s friend identified one of the accused, he was beaten up by the Tihar Jail prisoners on Thursday.

In the test identification parade (TIP), friend of the gangrape victim identified one of the accused, Mukesh, of the 11 men who were brought in front of him in Tihar jail.

Mukesh is the driver-cum cleaner of the bus, in which the 23-year-old woman was gangraped and brutally beaten up by six persons. Five have been arrested and one is still absconding. He is the brother of Ram Singh, the main accused.

‘When he was asked to identify the accused, he hardly took a minute to recognise him. The moment he recognised him, tears began to roll from his eyes,’ said the official.

Spokesperson of Tihar jail, S Gupta, said Mukesh was welcomed in jail no 4 with abuses and prisoners  beat him up. ‘Keeping the aggression of prisoners in mind, we have kept Mukesh in a separate jail. We have also posted two constables outside his cell,’ Gupta added.

Sources said, Ram Singh, the  main accused, had an accident a few years ago after which an  iron rod had been inserted in his left arm. He used to be upset about thatand become prone to picking up fights.
