Tihar inmate on parole kills 2 for revenge

In a gruesome family rivalry, a Tihar inmate, who was on parole, killed an elderly couple living in a village in Greater Noida on Tuesday night. Police said the accused, who has been serving life imprisonment, took the extreme step as he was angry over the killing of two of his family members including his brother by the family members of the deceased in May this year.

The earlier incident had sparked tension and both the groups, who reside in the same locality, had attempted to kill each other on several accounts. Police have registered a case and are searching for the inmate who is still at large.

According to police, the incident was reported around 1.30 am in Dujana village when <g data-gr-id="34">Vedu</g> (60) and his wife Vimla (55) were sleeping at their residence. Ashok, the convict, who was involved in an honour killing case in 2010, along with a few accomplices barged into their house, fired more than half a dozen bullets at the elderly couple. The victims, who were alone in the house, received bullet injuries on various body parts including head and abdomen and succumbed soon after.

After hearing the shots, neighbours rushed to the spot. They immediately informed the police and the bodies were taken for post-mortem. Police, during <g data-gr-id="28">initial</g> investigation, claimed Ashok’s role in the incident.

“As both the families have a long-drawn enmity, Ashok might have killed them to take revenge. Ashok, an inmate carrying serious criminal charges, is on the run after the incident. We have laid a trap to nab the accused,” said a senior police official investigating the matter.

It should be noted that two persons including a Delhi Police constable were killed while over a dozen were critically injured in a clash between two groups over a petty issue on May 5.  Those who had been killed were family members of Ashok. Following the incident, police had booked six persons of <g data-gr-id="30">Vedu’s</g> family.
