Three youth arrested for eve-teasing in Mahishadal

Barely 16 days after a woman was killed after being knocked down by some youth, who had been teasing the victim, another incident of molestation took place at Mahishadal in East Midnapore on Saturday night.

The victim was lucky enough that she escaped any injuries as local people intervened on time. The victim was returning from private tuition when some miscreants who were in a matador started stalking the girl.

When she reached the Rajbari area on Rathtala road, the accused who were five in number started hurling abusive comments at the girl. She walked quickly but the accused drove their vehicle side by side.

Police said that the accused who are from Madhabpur village were in the vehicle on its way to Garughata.

One of the accused also tried to pull her dopatta. The victim fell on the road after losing her balance.

She also screamed for help that attracted the attention of the local residents who rushed to the spot to rescue the girl. Seeing the villagers chasing them down the road, the driver of the vehicle tried to speed up.

While trying to flee the spot, the driver lost control over the matador and it rammed into a road side wall. The local people managed to catch hold of the three accused while two others including the driver fled the spot. After being informed, the police reached the spot and the accused were handed over to them.

Three of the accused were roughed up by the mob before the police took them in their custody.  Local people staged protest alleging that  police are not vigilant enough here and as a result such incidents are increasing in the area.

Police are conducting a raid to nab the other culprits who are at large since the incident took place.

It may be mentioned that a Class X girl student from Mahishadal died after being hit by a car, occupied by some youth who were stalking her and some of her friends and teasing them.
