Three-year-old girl drowns in open drain in S-E Delhi

A three-year-old girl drowned in a five-feet deep drain in South-East Delhi’s Shri Niwas Puri area on Thursday. Even after six hours of rescue operation, her body could not be recovered till late Thursday.

The incident took place at around 11.30 am when she was playing near her maternal grandmother’s residence along with some children of the locality. Kiran somehow fell into the drain when her five-year-old brother, identified as Sawan saw her struggling to come out from the drain. He then rushed to his parents and informed them about the incident.

Her mother rushed to the spot and tried to save her but the flow of the drain was so much that Kiran vanished within a few minutes.

Police and other concerned authorities were immediately informed but her body could not be recovered till late Thursday. Kiran, who hails from Rajasthan, had come to her maternal grandmother’s residence in Shri Niwas Puri along with her mother and brother.

According to the locals, the drain has become a death trap for many and two months ago, a 10-year-old boy also fell into the drain but was later rescued.
